When I was planning to go on a camino, my first intension was to start from home in the Netherlands. This would be a trip of more than 2.000 km. Unfortunately this could not be, so I was looking to a different place to start.
After a few weeks and research I decided to start from Lourdes. It would be a camino from one holy place to another. Lourdes lays on the Voie de Piemont and goes on to Saint Jean Pied de Port. Saint Jean is the most popular place to start on the Camino Frances for most people outside of Spain.
When I was reading I found information about the Chemin d’Arles. This French camino passes Lourdes, goes on to Oloron Sainte Marie and turns here South to go to Col du Somport in the Pyreneens. On top of the mountai, you will pass into Spain and start de Camino Aragon.
Camino Aragon is just a short camino and will connect to the camino Frances in Obanos, officially in Puente la Reina. This camino is a good way to go if you like some undiscovered route, with not so many pilgrims, but good views of the mountains.
